19.Morning Glory Spillway

Sometimes it’s not just Mother Nature creating massive holes in the ground. As humans have populated the planet, there have been times where we’ve needed to create specialized “sinkholes” in order to serve a specific function. This giant hole in the middle of the body of water is actually a spillway, created to maintain water flow through the Monticello Dam at Lake Berryessa. The waterfall through the spillway is only visible during periods of extensive rain, when the dam fills past a certain level.

We guess humans are capable of creating sinkholes, too, but our final sinkhole definitely wasn’t manmade…
